Dear Diary

I can never really get the hang of organizational software.

I’ve tried loads of different products, both web-based and desktop based and none of them have the intimate satisfaction of scribbling through a “to-do” item with a pen.

For example, this is a post-it note that has been stuck to my desk for about the last month or so and contains an informal list of things that needed to be done before RC 1. It’s also served as an improtu mug coaster too which proves the multitasking efficiency of paper.

Now that IPB is back off to have a final security audit (and thanks to Tom for his work in identifying a few areas (ahem) that needed improvement) I find myself in a curious position of having nothing urgent to do for the first time in about three months.

IP.Converge has been in limited beta testing for a few months and is coming together nicely. I’ve completed the first draft of the developer’s documentation and recently overhauled the XML-RPC method names to fall inline with the standard naming convention. I expect that we’ll be making the first public beta release very soon.

IP.Dynamic is now about 90% complete and I have some serious time to devote to it again rather than a few hours here and there. Once the task manager / calendar features have been completed there really isn’t much more to do which is a nice position to be in as it feels like it’s been in development since the invention of electricity.

There’s also a lot of activity behind-the-scenes with Rikki working on the websites and the team putting together the public and developer’s documentation for IPB. We really want to get IPB 2.2.0 off to a good solid start by having all the ancillary components ready to go.

Is it November already?

Sweet! Good to hear IP.Board 2.2 Final is coming soon, and IP.Dynamic is getting closer. :D

I’m so happy, very happy. I will cry :( My love IPD :)
You’re number 1 “MATT” and IPS :)

I personnaly use http://www.codeproject.com/tools/todolist2.asp and I appreciate it a lot.
It’s simple, efficient and effective ;)
Good luck

Just means you’ve found an organisational system that works for you. It’s nice to have updates!

I use http://hiveminder.com/ for a while now, and I’m very pleased with it.

Haha.. I do almost the same thing with using whatever piece of paper is closest to me as a coaster for my tea/coffee. It also ends up that there is usually important info on that paper too.

It’s interesting you say this, Matt, because I’ve been in search of a good to-do list for such a long time!

A few I like are:

http://www.rememberthemilk.com/ - Remember The Milk is an excellent to-do list manager that’s simple yet intuitive and allows you to effectively manage all your tasks with a plethora of options.

Also, the amazing iScrybe which I have been unable to get a beta in at http://www.iscrybe.com/ is a calendar, to-do manager, and so much more. If you get into the beta, that would be awesome!

I’ve fallen in love with the *idea* behind the “Getting Things Done” movement, also termed as “GTD”. Unfortunately, I couldn’t apply “GTD” to reading the entirety of the book to actually understand it all. :) I have my PC’s homepage set to my local server’s install of GTD-PHP (http://www.gtd-php.com/). It’s really well written. Now I just need a vacation away from PCs and the Internet to read the book. :)

Yep that is the same method I use to remember stuff to it never fails. No chance of the it not working, No chance of the power failing and no software or hardware issues.

Online list managers are great for managing groups of people but when you only need a simple list of things to jog your memory, it’s too much effort to log in, click a link, enter some text, hit submit..etc…etc

…not to mention you need to log in again to see the list.

My trusty post-it is sitting right under my computer monitor.

try google note system http://www.google.com/notebook/
and install its addons for firefox

Hey Matt, Is there going to be a type of SPAM control that can be used to control spamming post? Something like, a post comes up and you click a button to call it spam, then in the DB it remembers the IP # so that spam can not be listed again from that number? God knows I have alot of spammers doing that to my site and it takes awhile deleting all the topics I don’t want on the site. Thank in advance. Keep up the great work. Happy Holidays IPS and Matt.

I have the same problem as Philip. The extension worked for two days, after that it will clear the window and not display anything. I tried to uninstall mozilla, delete the profile and extensions and reinstall, but no luck :(
