Quick Update

Hello, all.

It’s been a long while since I updated my blog. It’s difficult finding the time between a full time job and an eleven month old little boy. Needless to say, that I’m still alive and well.

On the work front, things are getting pretty exciting as we’re currently beta testing IP.Board 3.0.0. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved at it marks a very definite step forward in terms of extensibility and scalability. It’s been a true collaboration between all the developers (myself, Brandon, Josh and Rikki on skinning and JS duties).

I’ve just (and, I mean, literally, just) finished the upgrade system. It’s a brand new framework which should prove easier to maintain. The upgrader is always a challenge as there are so many factors to try and manage. Fortunately, it’s been a relatively straight forward affair.

In other news, I’ve been suckered into Twitter. As a quick aside, it’s worth reading about how Twitter was created for those that don’t know. Very interesting read on the organic nature of software development. (Link by the way of Wil Wheaton; a very active Twitter user).

For years, I have been oblivious of its charms. Then recently, I took another look and slowly got hooked. Largely due to the influence of Stephen Fry; another very active Twitter user. A few weeks later and I find myself “Tweeting” through the day.

Of course, there are people who just don’t get it. It only starts to get really interesting when you follow interesting people. By interesting, I don’t mean just ‘famous’ – although there are some famous people who tweet through the day. By interesting, I just mean that they are funny, insightful or a mixture of both. Twitter may ask “What are you doing?” but most people just tweet what’s going on in their head. Psychiatrists would have a field day.

You are welcome to follow me on Twitter too. If you’d like to be informed of my dental appointments and dining arrangements.

From geeky to arty: I recently purchased a Canon 350 EOS from Tom F on the forums. Don’t worry if you don’t know Tom. It’s not essential for this blog entry. He’s a nice guy though and a very talented photographer. Don’t believe me? Check out his site. Most of the pictures there were taken with the very camera I have on my desk next to me.
Feel free to view my Flickr photostream. I can’t promise to be good. But I will be uploading regularly.
